Centlemen:

l On March 20, 1990, the NRC issued Bulletin No. 90 02, " Loss of Thermal Margin Caused by Channel Box Bow."

The bulletin requested that within 30 days of receipt all BWR licensees that currently use channel boxes for a second bundle lifetime verify that current CPR technical specification operating and safety limits are met.

The bulletin also requested that BVRs that currently use channel boxes for a second bundle lifetime (1) advise the NRC of the number of such channel boxes and their disposition in the core and (2) describe the methods and the associated data base used to account for the effects of t

channel box bow during second bundle lifetime use of channel boxes to ensure conformance with CPR technical specification operating and safety limits.

The Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Units 1 and 2 currently do not use channel boxes for a second bundle lifetime. Therefore, the issues raised in Pulletin 90 02 are not currently a concern for the Brunswick Plant.

Although not required by tha bulletin, this response is being provided to assist the NRC in closcout of this bulletin for the Brunswick Plant.
