Dear Mr. Bentsen:
j Currently in Texas a controversy exists over support for Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plantin Glen Rose. Appropriate legislation is necessary.
for effective safety and operation of Comanche Peak? To irlsure ultimate safety and proper operation of the equipment, legislation must be passed to regulate the day to day operation and growth of this important project.
Safety for the workers at Comanche Peak against radiation must be carefully monitored. Also, careful measures must be taken to prevent a disaster such as a nuclear meltdown. The safe disposal of wastes is another critical consideration.
While these safety measures are costly, they are very necessary for the protection of our environment.
Legislation is required to provide regulation and guidelines for proper management. Managing the workers and seeing that they are safe is crucial to the development of this power plant. The efficient distribution of the power requires operations experts. Furthermore, the proper overseeing of equipment usage and maintenance willincrease safety and efficiency of the plant. Even with top notch management, some independent controls are necessary to insure our safety.
Many inspections were done during and after construction of Comanche Peak. This careful process during construction of facilities increases the safety for l
both workers and citizens. Good construction also provides for a more efficient I
output level, but ongoing operational inspections are required to maintain high safety levels over time.
Clearly, these requirements of safety for workers, managers and citi:: ens indicate the importance of passing legislation to provide for regular inspections of Comanche Peak. Please support this legislation and safety for all Texans.
