The NRC has issued the enclosed exemptions from certain requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix R for the Haddam Neck Plant in response to your letter dated l

October 27,1989. The exemptions are related to the plant's inability to meet-1

'certain requirements of Section'III.G of Appendix R in the following areas:-1)

Auxiliary Feedwater Pump Room, 2) Men's Locker Room, Fire Area S-3, 3) RHR Pit

-i Area, Fire Area A-1, and'4) Containment Cable Vault.

A copy of the Safety Evaluation is also enclosed.

- g A copy of the enclosed Exemption is being filed with the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
