Review of NEDE-20996(P), " SAFER Models for Evaluation of loss-of-Coolant Accident for Jet Pump and Non-Jet Pump Plants, Volumes I and II" l
r The NRC has completed its review of the Volume I of the subject topical report submitted by General Electric Company (GE) by letter dated June 25, 1986.
Volume I of this report provides the description of the revised SAFER and COREC00L codes, and a sumary of the data base used to support code development. We find the SAFER and COREC00L codes as described in NEDE-20996(P) to be acceptable for use for best estimate evaluations of loss-of-coolant accident for non-jet pump plants (BWR.2), and jet pump plants (BWR3-6).
For jet pump plants, the version of SAFER and COREC00L described in NEDE-20966(P), Volume I may be used for licensing basis (10 CFR 50.46) analyses only in conjunction with the previously approved application methodology for jet pump plants described in NEDE.23875-1-PA, "The GESTR-LOCA and SAFER Models for the Evaluation of the Loss-of-Coolant Accident, SAFER /
f GESTR Application Methodology," Volume III.
SAFER may not be used as an ECCS evaluation model for non-jet pump plants until the application methodology, which is described in Volume II of NEDE.20996(P), has been approved by the staff. We are currently reviewing this j
application methodology, and will issue a separate safety evaluation report regarding its acceptability. We request that you do not publish an accepted I
