Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2
Dear Mr. Engelken:

k This letter is in response to IE Bulletin 81-02, Supplement 1 i
dated August 18, 1981.
i There are four Westinghouse Electro-Mechanical Division 4-inch l
motor operated gate valves installed at the Diablo Canyon Power Plants.
These valves are used as containment isolation valves on the lines provided for the connection of an external hydrogen recombiner. These valves would only be opened in a post loss-of-coolant-accident case. The l
calculated maximum post LOCA differential pressure for these valves is 47 psi. We consider this pressure to be acceptably low so that it will not affect these valves and closure can be assured.
We consider this matter closed and no further action necessa_y.
