Thank you for your letters of August 7 and October 21, 1981, &a response to our letters dated July 7 and October 6,1981. As a result of our review, we find that additional infomation, as discussed with your Mr. R. H. Dunn during a telephone call on October 27, 1981, is needed. Specifically, for Item A, the NRC inspector stated that the identity of certain welders had not been recorded on the QC Weld Log. Both of your responses have stated that all welders perfoming welding on pressure boundary materials are identified on the QC Weld Log.
During the telephone call, it became apparent that the problem hhs to do with the timing of the welder's identity being recorded on the QC Weld Log. Apparently, it is not always recorded at the time the QC inspector monitors the welder. The inspector records data on note paper or another form, and subsequently transfers the d4ta to the QC Weld Log.
In order that we might resolve this item, please serify that this is actual shop practice, and that this practice would not allow the failure to identify a given welder or other required data.
Please provide this additional information within 25 days from the date of this letter in order that we may complete our review.
