EDWIN I. HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 g
o INSERVICE INSPECTION PERIOD EXTENSION REQUEST );.
Gentlemen:
As a result of the core reconstitution outage currently in progress to replace defective fuel assemblies as discussed in our letter dated October 7, 1981, the next refueling outage for Hatch Unit 1 is now scheduled for September 1982.
Inservice inspection to complete examinations for the second forty-month period of commercial operation was to have been performed during the refueling outage originally scheduled for April 1982.
Due to this rescheduling, Georgia Power Company will be unable to complete the scheduled inservice examinations by August 30, 1982 when we would update our inservice examination program as required by 10 CFR 50.55a for the third forty-month period of commercial operation.
' Georgia Power Company requests that we be granted an extension of ~ the current inservice examination period to January 5,1983.
On that date, we would update our inservice inspection and inservice testing programs and commence examinations thereafter for the third forty-month period of commerical operation.
The new examination period would be from January 5, 1983 to May 5, 1986. An extension would allow us to complete the necessary i
examinations to the 1974 ASE Section XI Code during the refueling outage now scheduled for September 1982.
It is our desire to perform several examinations during that outage to the 1977 Code -(1980 if approved) and these will be discussed with you under separate cover.
In addition this 4
extension would allow the update of the Hatch Unit 1 inservice examination plans to coincide with the program update for Hatch Unit 2.
The subject extension is allowed by ASME Section XI Code, Article IWA-2400.
