Dear Sir:
Your letter of March 13, 1981 requested interim progress reports during the analysis and evaluation phase of IE Bulletin 80-11 work. Attachment 1 details the present status of analysis.
Concurrent with the ongoing program of upgrades on selected walls at Oconce, samples of existing concrete masonry have been taken from representative walls.
These samples will be tested to provide additional documentation of as-built material properties fo concrete masonry construction at the station.
Based upon the present progress of analysis and evaluation, we anticipate that the required engineering effort will be completed on schedule and our final report on the work will be submitted by December 31, 1981. Required hardware modifications will be completed by June 30, 1982 with the exception of a small number of upgrades which require an outage of Unit 3 prior to implementation.
The requirement for an outage of Unit 3 is based upon the physical safety of workers who will be in the proximity of main ste.sm relief valves and the require-ment to move instrument lines required for operation prior to installation of some upgrades. All masonry wall upgrades for Unit 3 will be completed prier to startup after its 1982 refueling outage.
