October 23, 1981 Mr. James P. O'Reilly, Director U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region II 101 Marietta Street, Suite 3100 Atlanta, Georgia 30303 Subj ect: McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Reference; RII: GAB-Inspection Report 50-369/81-17 and 50-370/81-05 Violation 50-369/81-17-02

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Per request of Mr. G. A. Belisle of your office in a telephone conversation with Duke Power Company on October 14, 1981, the following supplemental informa-tion is provided in regard to the subject violation.

A program was instituted in February of 1980 under which all temporary modifica-tions are identified by a unique tag and by stamping the work request used to install them. Since the implementation of this program the site Q.A. group 3.

has performed three separate audits on temporary modifications (May 1980, October 1980, and April 1981). These audits included extensive plant tours looking for uncontrolled temporary modifications. None were identified.

Due to the information stated above, it is felt the jumper found during the subject inspection was an isolated case and no further corrective actions are necessary.

I declare under penalty of perjury that the statements set forth herein are true and correct to the best of my knowledge.

Ve truly yours,

/
