This letter provides additional information to our letter dated March 25, 1981, (S.
L.
Daltroff, Philadelphia Electric Company, to B.
H.
Grier, NRC) concerning IE Bulletin 81-01 "Su-"
ilance of Mechanical Enubbers".
The Bulletin required, in part, that a manual test be performed on all safety related mechanical snubbers, prior to the completion of the next refueling outage, and report forwarded to the NRC.
As required by the Bulletin, these tests were completed on Unit 3 mechanical snubbers on August 28, 1981.
The results show that all of the Unit 3 mechanical shock suppressors have freedom of movement throughout the entire range of stroke in both tension and compression.
No failures of any kind were identified throughout the functional tests.
An individual maintenance procedure (M-65.10) was completed for each snubber to document the test results.

Haynes Page 2 Peach Bottom Unit 3 presently utilizes sixty-three (63) mechanical shock suppressors all of which are manufactured by Pacific Scientific Company.
These suppressors may be categorized as follows:

i Unit 2 mechanical shock suppressors will be tested during the Urit 2 refuel outage which is scheduled for February, 1982.
A follow-up report will be submitted subsequent to completion of the Unit 2 mechanical snubber functional testing.
