SuSj ec t: Appendix R of 10 CFR Part 50 - Fire Protection Rule (Limerick Cenrating Station, Units 1 and 2)
The Comission published a revised Section 10 CFR 50.49 and a new Anoencix R to 10 CFR Part S) on !!oveaber 19,19f!0 (4 5 FR 76602).
This rule became ef fective on February 17, 1931, and it specifies certain fire protection features for coerating nuclear power plants licensed before January 1979.
The technical requirenents stated in Appendix k were adopted after several years exnerience with the fire protection guf delines of Annendix A to GTP-AS'19.5-1 in evaluatinr#
fire prottction prograqs.
A copy of the Federal Reatster latice is enclosed (Enclosure 1).
The technical requirements of Appendix R to 10 CFR Part 50 are now being used ds guidelines in our evaluation of the fire protection program for plants under review for operating licenses.
It has been our recent practice to perfarn the fire protection reviews for OL plants using the provisions of Apoendix R.
Accordingly, as part of your overall fire protection progran su5qittal, we request that you include a co7parison of your fire protection program to Appendix R to 10 CFR Part 50.
Specifically identify and justify any deviation fro;n Apoendix R.
Deviations fron Appendix R should be identified as early in the review process as possible, so that they nav be resolved and all fire protection features be iaplenented by the time the plant is ready for fuel loading.
