20555 SU3 JECT: FOST ACCIDENT.IfiERTING SYSTEM o
~
Dear Mr. Dircks:
During its 257th meetir:g September 10-12, 1951, the ACR$ heard a presentation on the past accident inerting systc (PAIS) pre;cned as a means of combustible gas control for the Allens Creek Plant in the event of a. severe core damage accident.
' As a result of the presentation, the Comittee concluded that there are 'a number of questions that rc,ain to be addressed concerning the design bases
~
of,the PAIS including, but not limited to, hydrogen source tem design-
^
criteria, system actuation criteria (including inadvertant actuation),
containment pressurization, and equipment survivability.
The ACRS desires to review the proposed design of this system before it is
., approved by the NRC Staff or other r:eans of hydrogen control are precluded.
, Consideration!of this matter by the Committee should be factored into proposed staf ? cheduling of ACRS project reviews.
