N and Chief Engineer Gentlemen:
This letter confirms a telephone call between Mr. Daniel Sternberg of this office and Mr. Ron Colombo of your staff on October 19, 1981.
It is our understanding that, in light of the continuing problems you are experiencing
.sith your Instruent Air system, you have committed to the following:
1 Continue the revise ' preventative maintenance replacement of the Instr uent Air filters which assures each set is replaced at least every 90 days.
2.
Complete the engineering review of the acceptability of the close proximity of the Instruent Air filters and dryers. This review will be completed by November 20, 1981.
3.
Continue to utilize the newly installed Instrment Air dew poini:
monitoring system on a once per shift minimun, even though the system has not been fully accepted due to temporary cabling and the annunicator system being incomplete.
4.
Develop a process standard which will specify action to be taker for an unacceptable daw point. This standard will be in effect by 7,ovember 27, 1981.
5.
Continue to blow down the Instrument Air system from the installed blowdown manifolds every two weeks for at least the next six months.

i-4 2-October 19, 1981' Sacramento Municipal Utility District-will consist of disconnecting the air line to each air operated valve important to safety and perfoming a blowdown on each line and an exan-ination of the debris found, if any.

The actions described in Paragraphs 1 through 6 will continue for at least six months. At the end of this period, the comprehensive engineer-ing review of the Instrisnent Air system will be completed and appropriate j
changes to this special prograra will be identified.
If our understanding is contrary to your plans, please let us know.
