Dear Dr. Wogman:
Program (B-2217)your monthly report for the Edgemont Cleanup Action I have reviewed for July,1981, and have the following coments which were discussed with you on September 1,1981:
1.
The revised protocols for both the mini and the full engineering assessments (dated August 6,1981) are acceptable. However, as indicated in your July,1981 monthly report, both protocols should be revised to indicate that "it is only necessary to take a measurement on the surface, at a 5 cm depth, at 15 cm depth, and at 30 cm intervals to the base of the foundation, or to a depth of 6 feet", rather than performing measurements s/
every 15 cm as stated in the August 6, 1981 protocols. Such revised protocols should be dated to note this revision and such protocols should then be provided to us in your next monthly report. You are hereby authorized to conduct both the mini and the full engineering assessments utilizing these e avised protocols. At this time, in order to provide as much information about the number of structures and costs for a
~
remedial actions, you should emphasize completing all of the full engineering assessments as soon as possible.
2.
The sumary table (i.e. Table III Engineering Assessments) of the number of mini and full engineering assessments should also include the work previously reported by ARIX as well as your findings. This revised reporting format should be continued for each subsequent monthly report. In the future, a copy of each PNL mini and full engineering assessment report completed during each monthly reporting period shall be submitted with the monthly report for our review and approval.

Your July,1981 Financial Statement was acceptable; however, the " Projected Costs to Date" should be revised as indicated in the attached NRC Fom 173. As we previously agreed, the cost of capital equipment purchases of $8K for a pressurized ionization chamber and of $14K for an additional well logging system should be added to the total cperation cost estimates for a total funding level of $986K versus the $964K listed.
Also, as detailed in the attached fiRC Form 173, the five (5) revisions to your Fom 189 for B-2217 (dated July 7,1981) shall be in effect for this contract.
All other aspects of your July,1981 report were adequate. The actions taken by this letter are considered to be within the scope of the current contract (B-2217). lio changes to costs or delivery of contract products are authorized. Please notify me imediately if you believe this letter would result in changes to costs or delivery of contract products.
