I wanted to write you a letter to tell you that I would have gone to Diablo Canyon if it was possible, to help those people protesting. Though there age,7 g g /, s many of us who are not able to participate, we are there in our hearts.
The silent majority is becoming more vocal, as you will see. We find nuclear power plants an incomplete technology, unacceptable dangers abound, and you sirs have an industry to protect and have forgotten the environment and our children.
You might think that because there is a poor showing at Diablo, that people don't care, or worse, don't mind nuclear power plants. The poor showing is due to time and place circumstance. The poor showing describes a lot of people that are hoping and praying that people in positions of power have better sense than to let this go on.
Somebody has to take the onus of responsibility and stop dangerous experimentation. I ac begging you, before it is necessary to call each one of you out by name, please tell them to convert to alternate fuel. Radioactivity leaks, spills, meltdowns risk destruction far beyond our greatest imagination. We are on a tightrope as it is with our oceans polluting at a far greater rate than they can be recycled. To add to it a nuclear accident, spilling into the water systems of the world, eventually working itself to the arctic source -it's crazy.
Years ago I haa the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Bacon, professor of embryology at the University of Oregon. He was the only person at the time speakins against the power plant companies on the west coast--those that were to erect nuclear power plants. He was harrassed and black-marked by the industry.
He has been speaking about the risks and the problems with nuclear energy for years. Now it is begianing to take root with many people, and they have become really educated, not just brainwashed by the industry.
There can be no possible excuse ever to continue with this madness. Until the federal goternment has an organized plan with what to do with nuclear waste, until the technology is standardized to the point that every possible nuclear accident, a west coast Three Mile Island.
D9 3 problem has been addressed, it cannot withstand the chance, the risk of y
Mr. Watt underestimated the power of the westerners to preserve the coast,
,g and the will of many Americans who hold the government and the nuclear industry suspect. Do not be a part of the yes-men brigade. Call a spade a spade--Diablo is at risk--convert to another fuel cource. Please, show us we can trust you.

.. 3 Open Letter to Jerry Brown:
Okay Jerry, what are you going to do?
You have the power to stop Diablo nuclear power plant.
's.'ve always loved and res-pected you, thought you a humanitarian...if Diablo turns on, it will be:.because you too, as well as the Reagan administration and the NRC really need at least this much more diabolical power just to try to pull your heads out of your asses.
I fimly believe California is one of the last, if not the last, stronghold of freedom and humanism in the world.
If we as a body of people don't resist and refuse this coercion and oppression by corporate conglomerate madness, what hope is thure for the future?
Are you aware of your responsibility?
Can you accept it?
Please try to put aside your political head and trust your human heart - otherwise you'll probably be washed up along with the rest of us, in nuclear waste.
Most sincerely,
[
