Dear Mrs. Steinberg:

Enclosed please find an application from MG Scientific Gases for a license to export 0.88 kilograms of deuterium to South Africa fcr use in a cyclotron located at the National Accelerator Centre. The cyclotron is used in the production of radioisotopes for medical diagnostic purposes and industrial applications.

Before taking action on this license application, we would appreciate your views, in accordance with established procedures, as to whether the proposed export meets the applicable criteria in the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 as amended by the Nuclear Nonproliferation Act of 1978.
