UNITED STATES - ADVANCED PRESSURIZED WATER REACTOR DESIGN CERFTIFICATION SAFETY EVALUATION WITH NO OPEN ITEMS FOR CHAPTERS 18, HUMAN FACTORS ENGINEERING, AND 8, ELECTRIC POWER
Dear Mr. Mori:
By letters dated July 29, 2019 (Agencywide Documents Access and Managemement System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML19176A080), and August 19, 2019 ( ADAMS Accession No. ML19219A222), respectively, the staff sent you safety evaluations with no open items for the United States - Advanced Pressurized Water Reactor design certification application Chapters 18, Human Factors Engineering, and 8, Electric Power. These chapters were sent for proprietary review in advance of a September 19, 2019, Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) Subcommittee meeting.
Following that September 19, 2019, Subcommittee meeting, the full ACRS Committee meeting discussed the safety evaluations for these chapters in their November 6-8, 2019, meeting.
Subsequent to the full ACRS Committee meeting, the ACRS issued a letter dated November 26, 2019 (ADAMS Accession No. ML19331A036), in which they recommended, in part, that the staff issue both safety evaluation chapters.
The NRC staff and the ACRS agree on the accuracy and adequacy of safety evaluations for Chapters 18 and 8, as forwarded on July 29, 2019, and August 19, 2019, respectively, we request that you consider those documents as complete and issued Phase 4 safety evaluations as of the date of this letter.
