TWO-HUNDRED-FIFTY-SIXTH MEETING 0F THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS, AUGUST 6-8, 1981
Dear Dr. Palladino:
The Advisory Committee on Reactor S: ' 'uards held its 256th meeting in Washington, DC on August 6-8, 1981, ems considered at this meeting are summarized below:
256th ACRS Meeting The Committee completed its review of the requests for operation of the Enrico Fermi Atomic Power Plant Unit 2, and the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station Units 1 and 2.
The Committee completed an interim review of the request for op;,otion of the Waterford Steam Electric Station Unit 3.
The Committee approved a memorandum to the Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, urging that attention be given to potential seismic-induced and other interactions between nonsafety and safety systems.
Copies of the correspondence noted above have been provided to you.
The Committee met with representathei of the NRC Staff to discuss environmental i
and seismic qualification of electrical equipment (10 CFR Part 50.49).
The Committee met with you and Commissioner Bradford and discussed the question of thermal shock to a reactor pressure vessel from an over-cooling transient, instrumentation for detection of inadequate core cooling, the need for criteria to determine the adequacy of staffing in nuclear power plants, Committee recom-mendations regarding termination of the LOFT Project, and clarification of the Commission's request that the Committee review the recommendations of the Contract Review Panel regarding the program for development of containers for disposal of high-level radioactive wastes.
