The NRC.i's notified of a potentially reportable deficiency in the referenced celephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty l
(30) days.
l Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, an interim report is attached.
It is now expected that this information will be finalized by October 15, 1981, at which time a complete report will be submitted.

PVNGS UNIT #1 I.
Potential Problem During preparation for a start-up bench test of a General Electric relay supplied as a component of the 4.16 KV switch-gear, it was found that the relay had been delivered to the jobsite with the fiber contact base on the armature broken.
The relay is located in cubicle E-PBB-504N of the subject equipment, and is an essential part of a safety-related system.
A definitive reason for the breakage has not been determined.
The system has not yet been activited for testing or service.
II.
Approach To and Status Of Proposed Resolution The broken contact base will be replaced. The other equipment which has been delivared to the jobsite will be inspected.
Bechtel has requested General Electric's assistance in reviewing and dispositioning this condition.
III.
Projected Completion of Corrective Action and Submittal Date of the Final Report The evaluation, resolution and final report are forecast to be completed by October 15, 1981.
