Dear Mr. Callan:
SUBJECT:
SERVICE WATER SYSTEM OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE INSPECTION By Reference 2 the NRC informed Omaha Public Power District (0ND) of its intent to conduct a Service Water System Operational Performance Inspection (SWSOPI) at the Fort Calhoun Station (FCS). This inspection is currently scheduled for the period of May 10 through June 10, 1994, and would be conducted using Temporary Instruction 2515/118 " Service Water System Operational Performance Inspections (SWSOPI)", Revision 1.
As discussed in a telephone conversation on March 16, 1994 between Mr. R. Short (OPPD) and Mr. T. Stetka (NRC) the purpose of this letter is ta inform the NRC that OPPD proposes to perform a self-assessment of the Service Water Systems operational performance at FCS.
The scope and depth of tha self-nsessment proposed by OPPD will be based on the NRC Inspection Manual Procedure 40501,
" Licensee Self-Assessments Related to Area-Of-Emphasis Inspections", and TI 2515/118, " Service Water System Operational Performance Inspection (SWSOPI),"
Revision 1.
Further, OPPD proposes that the self-assessment be accepted by the NRC as an alternative to conducting the referenced team inspection of the same area.
The OPPD self-assessment will be scheduled for either October or November of 1994, with the final date to be agreed upon by OPPD and the NRC.
OPPD self-assessment team members, experience summaries and a detailed schedule will be prepared and will be made available to the NRC for review. A detailed description of the self-assessment process, team membership, experience summaries and schedule will be provided to the NRC by July 1, 1994.
