SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Docket No.: 50-266 Unit Name: Point Beach Unit 1 Date: February 4, 1983 Completed By: C. W. Fay Telephone: 414-277-2811 Unit 1 operated at approximately 370 MWe throughout the entire reporting period with no major load reductions.

On January 4, 1983 at 1530 hours0.0177 days
0.425 hours
0.00253 weeks
5.82165e-4 months
, the D-400 fire protection panel was found out of service. Upon discovery, hourly surveillance of the affected areas was begun according to Technical Specifications. This event is under evaluation, however, a 30-day Licensee Event Report will be filed with the NRC.

On January 23, 1983 at 0930 hours0.0108 days
0.258 hours
0.00154 weeks
3.53865e-4 months
, the control room received a " control rod system non-urgent failure" alarm on Unit 1 while Reactor Engineering was connecting a visicorder to the 1BD power cabinet to verify rod versus bank counter rod positions.

After attempts to reset the alarm on the logic cabinet failed, control bank "D" was put in motion. Immediately, a " control rod system urgent failure" alarm was received, however, there was no motion indicated on control bank "D". Upon investigation, I&C found and replaced a 50 amp blown fuse on the main power supply to the logic cabinets. The urgent and the non-urgent alarms cleared and control bank "D" rod motion was verified. Reactor Engineering then verified control bank "D" rod position versus the bank counter with all four rods within one step. This event was not considered reportable.

Construction work for IE Bulletin 79-14, Seismic Restraint Fabrication, was essentially completed during the period.

The primary-to-secondary leakage remains stable at less than ten gallons per day.

No other safety-related maintenance was performed in conjunction with the operation of Unit 1.
