Safety-Related Instrument Tubing and Supports Program for River Bend Station The NRC staff has completed its review of the Gulf States Utilities (GSU) request for approval of an instrument tubing and supports program for 4

application in safety-related Systems of the River Bend Station. Repre-sentatives of GSU met with members of the staff on October 22,1982 to O

discuss the proposed program.

The instrument line from the root valve to the process line is three-quarter inch piping and is not a part of the program.

The safety-related instrument tubing and supports program proporad by GSU applies to ASME Section III, Class 2 and Class 3 instrument litec

The tubing used is one-half inch stainless steel. GSU will apply ASME Code Case N-127. " Alternate Rules for Examination of Weld in Piping,Section III, Class 1 and 2 construction", except for tha documentation of activities such as material certifications, inspection, and final certification which will be in accordance with the GSU Category I Quality Assurance Program for River Bend, which is in compliance with 10 CFR 50, Appendix B.

In this respect, GSU should verify that the manufacturing for fabricated supports, such as Unistrut, has been carried out in accordance with a Quality Assurance Program meeting the applicable portions of 10 CFR 50, Appendix B.

Cahill, Jr. We conclude that the instrument tubing and supports program as described in the GSU submittal of January 3,1983 is acceptable provided that the fabricated supports are in accordance with an Appendix B Quality Assurance Program. Compliance with these requirements provides a quality level that is connensurate with the importance of the safety functions of the attached fluid systems.

It is understood that you will amend the River Bend Station Final Sufety Analysis Report to reflect your January 3,1983 submittal.
