SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT FOR APPENDIX R TO 10 CFR PART 50, ITEMS III.G and III.L.
Re: Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2 This letter transmits the Safety Evaluation on the safe shutdown capability in the event of fire at the Quad Cities Station. The safe shutdown capability was evaluated against the requirements of Section III.G.3 and III.L Appendix R to 10 CFR Part 50. We conclude that your conceptual de-sign for alternate safe shutdown is in accordance with Appendix R,Section III.G.3 and III.L requirements.
l This completes the review of the Quad Cities fire protection program by NRR. A regional inspection to determine Appendix R compliance will be conducted in the future. Any modifications you require must be completed in accordance with the schedule given in Section 50.48(c)(4) of the re-gulations.
Within 60 days after the new system is completed and declared operable, you should propose Technical Specifications for the new safe shutdown make-up pump comparable to those currently irrplace for the reactor core iso-lation cooling system.
This action addresses only the safe shutdown capability of your plant i
evaluated against the requirements of Sections III.G.3 and III.L of Appendix R to 10 CFR Part 50.
Your request of.luly 1,1982ffer specific exemptions from the requirements of Section III.G.3. will be the subject of a separate action.
