Dear Sir:

The NRC was notified of a potentially reportable deficiency in the referenced telephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty (30) days.

Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, an Interim Report is attacheL It is now expected that this information will be finalized by April 21, 1983, at which time a complete report will be submitted.

_ require that the tendon sheathing must be sufficiently leak-tight to hold the sheathing filler material.

When the subcontractor conducted the'information air > test prior to

' greasing tendons H32-009 and H32-011, the sheathings. revealed excessive leakage.to the outside face of the concrete..Further investigation revealed-a concrete. surface irregularity in the exterior containment wall at the point of air leakage.

Investigation of this surface irregularity by chipping has revealed ~

~

a crack generally parallel to the concrete surface and located up to 5" from the surface.

II. APPROACH TO AND STATUS OF PROPOSED RESOLUTION

'Bechtel Engineering has initiated an investigation concerning this condition.

III. PROJECTED COMPLETION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION AND SUBMITTAL OF TiiE FINAL REPORT Evaluation of this condition and submittal of the Final Report is forecast to be completed by April 21, 1983.
