Reference:

(a) License No. DPR-36 (Docket No. 50-309)

(b) MYAPCo Letter to USNRC, dated January 7,1981 - WMY-80-166 (c) USNRC Letter to MYAPCo, dated September 14, 1982

Subject:

Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) Outage

Dear Sir:

This letter provides the additional information regarding outages of ECC systems at Paine Yankee requested in Reference (c).

You specifically requested, Reference (c), outage information for the refueling water storage tank (RWST), the flow path from the RWST, and the safety injection tanks (SIT). These systems experienced no outages during the period of interest, therefore, do not appear in data.

Maintenance outages reported in Reference (b) have been revised, to incorpnrate better estimates of outage time for maintenance tasks and reacranged by regrouping under ECCS train affected (Encl. 1).

Detailed information on outages resulting from surveillance testing is not available from plant records. However, outage durations for the performance of required ECCS surveillance have been estimated. This information is provided for those monthly or quarterly surveillance actions which require taking the component out of service (Encl. 2). During the period of interest, the plant was operating for about four years and three months which resulted in 17 quarterly and 51 monthly surveillance periods.

Total outage duration can be estimated by multiplying the number of periods by the outage duration for each surveillance test of interest.
