In response to your letter of September 15, 1982, relative to inspections required by IE Bulletin 79-13 for Sequoyah at the first refueling outage, RII concurs with the planned action except as follows:
1.
For the feedwater piping welds to the first support which will not be radiographed at the first refueling outage, the construction radiographs shall be reviewed for compliance with the Bulletin, (i.e.,
radiographic technique, weld quality, etc.). Welds with film exhibiting unsatisfactory radiographic technique shall be re-radiographed to the Bulletin require-ments.
Welds exhibiting unacceptable defects shall be evaluated and/or repaired as required.
2.
The area on the main feedwater line one pipe diameter downstream of the auxiliary feedwater to main feedwater connection shall be inspected volu-metrically (radiography or ultrasonic) as required by the Bulletin to the maximum extent possible without removal of equipment such as pipe supports or whip restraints.
3.
The first elbow pipe weld nearest the steam generator for each loop shall be radiographed in accordance with the requirements of the Bulletin.
4.
It should be noted that the intended volumetric examination for the nozzle to pipe welds is radiography.
