Docket No. 50-10

Docket No. 50-237

Docket No. 50-249

Commonwealth Edison Company

ATTN:

Mr. Cordell Reed

Vice President

Post Office Box 767

Chicago, IL 60690

Gentlemen:

This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. A. G. Januska

and N. A. Nicholson of this office on August 30 through September 3, 1982,

of activities at the Dresden Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2 and 3,

authorized by NRC Operating Licenses No. DPR-02, No. DPR-19 and No. DPR-25

and to the discussion of our findings wita Messrs. R. Ragan, D. Farrar and

other onsite staff members at the conclusion of the inspection and with

Dr. R. Coley of your Nuclear Station Division by telephone on September 9,

1982.

The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during

the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective

examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and in-

terviews with personnel.

In addition, our Mobile Laboratory was at the site

during the inspection to perform independent measurements of radioact' ity.

No items of noncompliance with NRC requirements were identified during the

course of this inspection.

Our inspection identified a need for written guidance to station Rad / Chem

management on the operation of the Automated Analytical Instrumentation

System used for gamma spectrocopy. We understand that such guidance will

be provided by November 29, 1982. We will review this matter at Dresden-

and at the other CECO Nuclear Stations during subsequent inspections.
