POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 - THIRD INSERVICE INSPECTION INTERVAL. REQUEST TO USE CODE CASE N-524 AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO CODE REQUIREMENTS (TAC NOS. M89851 AND M89852)

By letter dated July 27, 1994, Wisconsin Electric Power Company (licensee) requested approval for the implementation of the alternative rules of ASME Section XI Code Case N-524 dated August 9, 1993, entitled " Alternative Examination Requirements for Longitudinal Welds in Class 1 and 2 Piping Section XI, Division 1," pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3) to be applied to the Inservice Inspection (ISI) program for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unitt 1 and 2.
The staff has reviewed and evaluated the request and supporting information to use Code Case N-524. The staff has concluded that the licensee's proposed alternative to use Code Case N-524 for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, is authorized pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(ii). The staff's evaluation and conclusions are contained enclosed in the enclosed Safety Evaluation.
