SUBJECT:
Calvert Cliffs Nucicar Power Plant Unit Nos.1 & 2: Docket Nos. 50-317 & 50 318 Generic Implications of CEA Failure At Maine Yankee (TAC V457)
REFERENCE:
(a)
Letter from Mr. R A Capra (NRC) to Mr. G. C. Creel (BG&E),
dated July 6,19(X), Genenc Implications and Resolution of CEA Failure at Maine Yankee for Calvert Cliffs (TAC M457)
Gentlemen:
This letter is in response to Reference (a) which requested we provide information concerning our plans for the CEAs in Unit 2 which are susceptible to corrosion cracking. There were 68 CEAs in Unit 2 which were determined to be the same design as the failed Maine Yankee CEA. These CEAs were replaced in October 1990, with CEAs that are not susceptible to corrosion cracking. The Request for Additional brormation attached to Reference (a) requested information based on the assumption that the "oki style" CEAs would continue to be used during the next Unit 2 fuel cycle, Since we have replaced all of these CEAs with new ones, this information is no longer needed. We believe this issue is closed for Calvert Cliffs.
Should you have any further questions regarding this matter, we will be pleased to discuss them with you.
Very truly yours, 7
