Dear Mr. Reed:

This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Messrs. S. G. DuPont,

R. A. Kopriva, T. J. Kobetz, D. Shepard, W. Kropp, J. Monninger and

Ms. D. R. Calhoun of this office from March 10 through April 20, 1991,

of activities at the Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2, authorized by NRC

Operating Licenses No. NPF-72 and No. NPF-77, and to the discussion of our

findings with Mr. K. L. Kofron and others of your staff at the conclusion

of the inspection.

The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during

the inspection.

Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective

examination of. procedures and representative records, observations, and

interviews with personnel.

During this inspection, two items were identified that appeared to be in

violation'of NRC requirements.

The inspection showed that actions are being

taken to correct one of the identified violations to prevent recurrence.

Consequently, we have exercised our discretion as allowed under the NRC

Enforcement Policy for this violation

To encourage prompt self-identification

and correction of problems, the violation is not being cited because-the

criteria specified in 10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C, Section V.G 1 of the

. Enforcement Policy were satisfied.

In regard to the remaining violation,

as specified in the enclosed Notice, a written response is required.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of

this letter, the enclosures, and your response will be placed in the NRC

Public Document Room.

The responses directed by this letter and the accompanying Notice are not

subject to the clearance-procedures of the Office of Management and Budget

as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
