%Q~,,,,?'y April 13, 1973 Docket No. 50-263 Northern States Power Company ATTN:
Mr. A. V. Dienhart Vice President - Engineering.
414 Nicollet Avenue Minneapolis, Minnesota
$5401 Gentlemen:
As the number of operating nuclear plants increases, the r.ur.ber of personnel that may be exposed to on-the-job radiation is increasing.
Information on the exposure levels for such plant personnel (permanent and temporary) are necessary for us to obtain the actual exposures measured for various routine plant functions and unusual maintenance f unctions and compare the ef f ectiseness of operating plant proccdures and radiation controls L? reduce in-plant radiation exposures to as low as practical.
Our letter of September 28, 1972, discussing standard reporting requirements for operating reactors included a proposed Technical Specification to cover the Plant Reporting Requirement which included a reporting requirement on Occupational Personnel Radiation Exposure.
Supplemental radiation exposure information on reactor plant operator and contractor personnel for your operating facilitias since 1969 or the issuance of the facility license, whichever is the later, is requested. Your report should include for each year of operation, the number of plant personnel (permanent or temporary) receiving measurable radiation exposures (at least 100 mrem) according to duty function (routine plant surveillance and inspection, routine plant maintenance, special plant maintenance, routine refueling operations, special refueling operations and other job related exposures).
The associated plant operator and contractor personnel total man-rem should be tabulated for each duty function if available trom the plant records.
If the types of exposure records that you maintain do not facilitate a tabulation such I
as that described above, please previde a tabulatfor. as comparable as possible, bearing in mind that the objective J s to i :termine exposures as functions of specific plant activities.

Thank you for j
your cooperation in this effort to obtain and evaluate the actual radiation exposure to plant personnel during actual nuclear plant operations. We expect to receive such information on a setni-annual basis from all operating nucicar facilities as part of the Semi-Annual Operating Report in the near future.
