MeElroy Vies Prooident - Engineering Centlemen At its meetings held May-7-9, 1970 and June 11-13,1970, the Advisory Committee on Reacter Safeguards reviewed proposed modifications to furnaes sensitised stataless steel components attached to the reactor vessel of the Monticello plant. A copy of the Comunittee's report dated June 15, 1970 is enclosed.
The Committee agreed that the modifications proposed in Amendments 26 and 27, should increase assurance of trouble-free operation. However, it cited several matters requiring further attention to 44=f ateh the probability of a failure in a safe end or other piping component.
As stated by a staff witness at the public hearing on June 16, 1970, these matters can be handled during initial operation of the plant but prior to the first refueling outage. Although the resolution of some of these matters may appropriately be accomplished during initial plant operation, platse submit in writir.g prior to resumption of the public hearir.g your response to each of the ACRS comments. Your response should include your program and schedule for handling each of the ACRS connects.
