Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

.. Carolina Power & Light (CP&L). Company committed in its supplemental response to IE Inspection Report 50-324/82-16 and 50-325/82-16, dated November 29, 1982, to have a formal program for detecting trends and reviewing failed equipment established and implemented by December'31,'1982. Although the program was _ established by this date, -implementation is still ongoing.

The BSEP trending program utilizes the Nuclear Plant Reliability Data-System (NPRDS) which is' currently undergoing a transition in management [from Southwest Research Institute-(SRI) to the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO)] and a scope expansion requiring additional training for its users.

Personnel assigned to the trending program and NPRDS reporting have attended the INPO sponsored workshop on the NPRDS reportable scope and are currently training in interactive data entry which will provide more timely failure 1
