Subject: NRC Inspection of the Trojan Nuclear Plant
This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. M. H. Malmros of this office
on June 6 - July 8, 1983 of activities authorized by NRC License No. NPF-1,
and to the' discussion of our. findings held by Mr. Malmros with Mr. Yundt and
other members of, your . staff periodically during the inspection.
Areas examined during this, inspection are described'in the enclosed
inspection report. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective
examinations of procedures and~ representative records, interviews with
personnel, and observations by 6he inspector.
No items of noncompliance with NRC requirements were identified within the
scope of this inspection.
During a visit to your facility on July 18, 1983, certain observations were
made onsite by the Regional Administrator and the Senior Resident Inspector
that deserve.your prompt attention. These observations include concerns
regarding the formality of control room watchstanding, use of improper
language by control room personnel, open doors and panels on instrument
cabinets, and an excess of material which created a cluttered condition in
the control room during reactor operation. These observations were discussed
with Mr. Yundt on July 18 and with Mr. Broehl on July 19, 1983, by the
Regional Administrator. Your attention to the prompt resolution of these
concerns by facility management is warranted.
Please inform the resident
inspector when effective corrective action has been implemented.

In "a'ccordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the

enclosure (s) will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room unless you notify
this office, by telephone, within ten days of the date of this letter and
submit written application to withhold information contained therein within
thirty days of the date of this letter. Such application must be consistent
with~the requirements of 2.790(b)(1).
