Docket No. 50-285

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

Required Actions Based on Generic Implications of Salem ATWS Events (Generic Letter 83-28)

Since receipt of the referenced Generic Letter on July ll, 1983, the Omaha Public Power District has been working on the development of information on the current status regard-ing conformance with the position in that letter.

The Dis-trict has also worked on the development of plans and schedules for identifying areas where improvements may be necessary.

The District's efforts to date have identified the fact that it is not possible at this time to determine if the request-l ed information can be submitted within 120 days from the I

date of your letter.

Since your letter required any request for extension to the 120 day schedule be submitted no later j

than 60 days from the date of the letter, the District is therefore requesting an extension for determining if any ex-tension beyond the 120 days will be required.

The District has been and plans to continue working with industry groups in developing a response to certain of the action items in Generic Letter 83-28.

To date, these ef-forts have, among other things, resulted in discussions re-garding responses to action item 2.2.

The development of l

plans and schedules or development of other actions in re-I sponse to the item 2.2 issue will require interfacing with many organizations and, in all probability, will require an extension to the 120 day schedule stated in Generic Letter 83-28.

As our work continues on the other action items, G309080155 830901 PDR ADOCK 05000285 P

Mr. Darrell G.

Eisenhut LIC-83-223 Page Two specific plans and schedules will be developed and the ability to provide the requested information within the 120 day time period will be identified.

For the above reason, the District therefore requests an ex-tension to November 1, 1983 to submit any request for ex-tension beyond the 120 days stated in Generic Letter 83-28.

Sincerely, h
