Dear Mr. Brich:
Enclosed are thirty-two (32) Radiological Assessment (RA) reports for properties in Edgemont. At twenty _five (25) properties we have detected concentrations of residual radioactive materials in excess of the EPA standard for Ra-226 in soil (40 CFR 192). The RA reports for these properties have been submitted to the DOE for their consideration for designation of the properties for remedial action under the provisions of UMTRCA, Title I.
A total of 107 RA reports have been submitted to the DOE (92 by the NRC and 15 by South Dakota) and eighty-two (82) properties in Edgemont have been designated by the DOE for remedial action.
Atsix(6)ofthesubmittedpropertieselevatedlevelsofRa-226insoil or gamma exposure rates were detected which did not exceed the EPA standards. One property (the Rainbow Motel at 500 A St.) has already been submitted by South Dakota to the DOE and subsequently designated.
We are providing its RA report for your information. The enclosed attachment identifies each property RA report. We will provide you with copies of additional RA reports as they become available.
