BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NOS.1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-325 AND 50-324 LICENSE NOS. DPR-71 AND DPR-62 SUPPLEMENTAL REQUEST FOR LICENSE AMENDMENT MISCELLANEOUS PLANT MODIFICATIONS

Dear Mr. Vassallo:

SUMMARY

In accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 10, Parts 50.90 and 2.101, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) hereby requests a revision to the Technical Specifications (TS) for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit No. 1 (Brunswick-1). The revision supplements our June 16, 1982 and April 28, 1983 submittals concerning miscellaneous TS revisions.

DISCUSSION On June 16, 1982, CP&L submitted a request for TS revisions to address the deletion of certain safety-related hydraulic snubbers and the installation of several other miscellaneous plant modifications. All of these modifications were scheduled to be completed during the Brunswick-1 Reload 3 outage. Due to delays in beginning this outage, the lengthy duration of the outage, and changes in the work scope of the outage, CP&L found it necessary to revise the proposed TS revisions provided in our June 16, 1982 submittal (refer to CP&L's supplemental request for TS revisions dated April 28, 1983, Serial No. LAP-83-100) .

Enclosure 1 of CP&L's April 28, 1983 request provides the background information for TS revisions relating to the implementation of certain NUREG-0619 requirements for Brunswick-1. During the Brunswick-1 Reload 3 outage, CP&L partially removed the control rod drive (CRD) return line and installed a temporary cap. This CRD return line removal resulted in the deletion of only four hydraulic snubbers instead of five snubbers as stated in our April 28, 1983 request. Accordingly, CP&L herein encloses a revised TS page 3/4 7-12 for Brunswick-1 that reflects the deletion of the correct j number of CRD return line snubbers.
