J The Commission met with staff on July 14, 1983, to be briefed on the status of and planned actions related to occurrence of intergranular stress corrosion cracking in BWR recirculation piping systems (see SECY-83-267/267A).
The' Commission acknowledged that the staff recommendation to accelerate the inspection of BWR primary piping at five operating reactors may be appropriate.
The Commission did indicate 'that the industry should have an opportunity to l
discuss this issue with the Commission before the inspection schedule or other actions were finalized.
(NRR) 4 Chairman Palladino requested information on the technique used to repair the pipe cracking in 1981 at a Japanese reactor.
i The Commission requested a meeting on this subject the following day with representatives of the industry-licensees, EPRI, and GE.
