Diesel Generator Bolt Torque t

Dear Mr. Seidle:

This letter withdraws the potential 10CFR50.55(e) item concerning loose l

stud / nut combinations in the diesel generators at Wolf Creek Generating S ta tion. This matter was initially reported by Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) on June 14, 1982, and additional information was provided in References 1), 2), 3) and 4).

As stated in Reference 4), some of the stud-nut combinations in question were found to be slightly under torqued and have subsequently been reworked to meet the manufacturers specified torque values. The "as found" condition was documented during the rework and sent to the manufacturer for evaluation of safety implications. The manufacturer has completed his evaluation and has determined that the stud / nut combinations were sufficiently tight and would not have come loose during operation.

KG&E has concluded that the safety of operations would not have been adversely affected had the stud / nut combinations not been reworked and that this matter is not reportable pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e).
