Dear Sir:

The NCR was notified of a potentially reportable deficiency in the referenced telephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty (30) days.

Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, an Interim Report is attached.

It is now expected that this information will be finalized by September 8, 1983, at which time a complete report will be submitted.

Potential Problem 8" X 4" X 3/4 clip angles used by The Waldinger Corporation (TWC).

for HVAC supports do not meet ASTM A-36 requirements.

j' Discontinuities / cracks in radius of clip angle are traceable to heat 43885, procured fron. Reliance Steel (formerly Steiler Steel).

Total suspect clip angles (395) for Unites 1,2 & 3 have been.

documented on TWC NCR's 684 through 689 (Quality Class Q &-R),

dated 6/2/82.

Western Technology Report No. 2583J028 found glavanizing in crack defects of samples evaluated, indicating a manufacturing problem at the mill.

II.

Approach To and Status Of Proposed Resolution Bechtel engineering is currently corresponding with Waldinger to provide disposition of this condition.

III. Projected Completion of Correction Action and Submittal Of The Final Report i

Evaluation of this condition and submittal of the final report is forecast to be completed by September 8, 1983.
