GPU Nuclear Corporation P.O. Box 480 Middletown, PA 17057
Dear Mr. Arnold:
~
SUBJECT:
GPU VS. B&W LAWSUIT DOCUMENTS REVIEW The NRC staff has been directed to perform a comprehensive review of the GPU vs. B&W lawsuit documents which you provided to NRC. These documents-include:
(1) the trial transcripts and exhibits admitted into evidence, (2) exhibits used during the trial or identified by either party for possible use during the trial but not admitted into evidence, and (3) the depositions taken in preparation for the trial as well as the exhibits used in taking the depositions. Our best estimate is approximately 70,000 pages of documentation.
As a result of conversations between GPU's legal ' counsel, Mr. Richard D.
Lloyd Esq., and Mr. Edward Butcher of my staff, we have determined that NRC l
access to GPU's computerized record of the lawsuit documents would be useful to our review. We would _not use GPU's computerized record as part of our document review. However, we propose to use it as _a_ check on. the i
l completeness of.our review. Any information generated by the NRC staff s use l
of GPU's computerized record would be placed in the NRC's Public Document Rooms.
The GPU computerized record, as we understand it, can be accessed from remote locations via normal telephone lines. We propose to access this system from our Bethesda, Maryland office.
In order for my staff to become familiar with your system and its capabilities, I propose that Mr. Lloyd and Mr. Butcher arrange a meeting at your offices in Parsippany, New Jersey to train two members of the NRC staff in the use of your system.
Please let me know as soon as possible whether such arrangements can be made. We would like to meet with Mr. Lloyd during the week of July 11, 1983.
Sincerely,
/
