Gentlemen:
An analysis of the shaft keyway region of the Decay Heat Removal Pump reveals

The cracks and their propagation are considered to be _fatirne de-wee c.a33m1 a
by the high vibration levels associated with recirculation flow of c,80 zum.
To lessen the probability of shaft cracks, overations in the recirculation flov mode shoula ba 14m4+=d.
Babcock is Wilcox advises that the following restrictions on operations of all Decay Heat Removal Pumps should be observed:
vi. The =4n4="= allovable continuous flow per Decay Heat Pump is 800 spa.

The time periods for operating at the recirculation flow rate v

a g /4 La of 80 spa are 30 minutes consecutively and 60 minutes during any consecutive 12 month period.
These changes have been implemented by incorporation into Limits and Preenutions, DP 1101-01 for Unit II. BisW advises that DP 1101-01 for Unit I also be revised to reflect these enanges.
