Gentlemen:
This refers to the routine radioactive waste systems inspection conducted by
Mr. W. L. Holley of this office during the period February 28-March 4,1983, of
the activities authorized by NRC License DPR-34 for Fort St. Vrain Nuclear
Station, and to the discussion of our findings held with Mr. D. W. Warembourg
and other members of your staff.
Principal areas examined during the radwaste program inspection included:
(1) radiochemistry and health physics organizations; (2) radioactive effluent
releases, liquid and gaseous; (3) records and reports of radioactive effluents;
(4) effluent control instrumentation; (5) procedures for controlling the release
of effluents; (6) testing of air cleaning systems; (7) reactor coolant quality;
(8) audits of radwaste activities; and (9) reportable occurrences. Within these
areas, the inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures and
representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the
inspector. The inspection findings are documented in the enclosed inspection
report.
Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were identified.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosure
will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room unless you notify this office,
by telephone, within 10 days of the date of this letter, and submit written
application to withhold information contained therein within 30 days of the
date of this letter. Such application must be consistent with the requirements
of 2.790(b)(1).
