_.8-We are herewith submitting for your review and ap poval Appendix 1 to the CNSI 21-300 Type A Radwaste Shiyping Cask Safety Analysis Report.

This submittal supersedes our previous submittal, dated February 28, 1983, for this cask.

Appendix 1 contains our description and evaluation of:

1)

A new load distribution pallet to simplify and facilitate uniformity and consistency in the stack-up of the 21-55 gallon drum configuration certified for the CNSI 21-300 Radwaste Cask.

2)

An auxiliary shield utilizing the new load distribution pallet as a lid for the shield.

3)

A thermal analysis for the cask.

4)

Revised operating procedure to include the use of the internal shield.

In addition, we are submitting eight (8) copies of the engineering drawings of the new full height shield and lid pallet to be included in the SAR.

Use of the cylindrical auxiliary shield (which is rotationally synnetric) and the spacer pallet inside the cask requjyes no cask modifications or weight increase.

Mr. Charles E. MacDonald June 28, 1983 Item (4) consists of a procedural change document which has been reviewed by the CNSI Safety Review Board.

The changes will be made to the procedure upon issuance by the NRC of a revised C of C to include the auxiliary shield.

Details of our evalution are contained in Appendix 1 to the SAR, herewith attached.
