This will acknowledge receipt of your letter, dated March 16, 1983, and your check for $112,000 sent in payment for. civil penalties imposed by the NRC in a letter dated February 18, 1983.
In that letter you recommended that a rulemaking be conducted that would make clear to industry what circumstances constitute a material false statement.
The Enforcement Staff of the Office of Inspection and Enforcement is considering this, and other means of more fully addressing the issue of material false statements, and will make its recommendations to the Commission in its upcoming report on the implementation of the Enforcement Policy.
