Dear Mr. Seidle :
This letter provides an interim report on a potential 10CFR50.55(e) matter concerning welds on Bergen & Paterson sway struts. This matter was first reported by Kansas Gas and Electric Company on February 24, 1983,and supplemental information was provided in the Reference.
The majority of the welds in question have been evaluated and no adverse safety concerns have been identified. However, a few welds remain to be evaluated before this matter can be closed.
The status of the evaluation and resolution of this matter will be reported to you on or before July 18, 1983. In the interim, please direct any questions concerning this subject to me or to Mr. Otto Maynard of my staff.
