TRAtlSFER OF LEAD RESPONSIBILITY ON PEACH BOTTOM UNITS 2 AND 3 - PIPE CRACKS FROM REGION 1 TO THE OFFICE OF fiUCLEAR REACTOR REGULATION The Nuclear Regulatory Cornission's Region 1 office has requested that the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) take lead responsibility for the review of the Peach Bottom Atonic Power Station, Units 2 and 3, pipe crack indications. NRR will evaluate and assess the technical and safety aspects of the crack indications identified at Units 2 and 3 as well as evaluate the analyses and proposed corrective actions as part of your response to I.E.Bulletin 83-02.

In addition, flRR has assuned the lead responsibility for approving Unit 3 restart and the acceptability of continued operation of Unit 2 until the October 1983 refueling outage.

Region l's responsibility uill entail the inspection of the Peach Bottom ISI prograns, QA/QC controls, leak detection and repair activities, as appropriate.
