- 0) AND THE POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT OF EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PERFORMANCE INDICATORS TO SUPPORT A 10 CFR 50.54(t)(1) 24-MONTH EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM REVIEW FREQUENCY OPTION On January 14, 2020, representatives of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a Category II public meeting to discuss the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) White Paper, Implementing a 24-Month Frequency for Emergency Preparedness Program Reviews (Rev.
0, November 2019).
The NRC staff opened the meeting by explaining the background of the 10 CFR 50.54(t)(1)(ii)
Final Rule that was issue March 29,1999 (64 FR 14814). The staff also emphasized the importance of stakeholder involvement in the development process and the process the staff would use to endorse industry developed guidance.
NEI presented the White Paper and discussed changes made to the proposed PIs outlined in the paper as a result of the comments provided during the October 29, 2019 Public Meeting.
Industry representatives, which included Entergy, were involved in the discussions and offered the opportunity to provide input.
The staff stated they do not foresee a need for additional Public Meetings on the NEI White Paper and will pursue endorsement of the paper in the next revision of Regulatory Guide 1.101, Emergency Planning and Preparedness for Nuclear Power Reactors.
