DIRECTOR'S DECISION UNDER 2.206 REGARDING BWR DESIGN PROBLEMS Enclosed for your information are copies of a Director's Decision, letter of transmittal, and Federal Reqister notice issued by the Director, filed under Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Director) in response to a Petition 10 CFR 2.206 of the Commission's regulations. The Petition was filed by Ms. Anna Harlowe on behalf of the Ecology Center of Southern California.
The petitioner requested that the NRC fix or close all nuclear power reactors designed by General Electric Company (GE). As discussed in the enclosed i
Di:tctor's Decision, the Petitioner's request under 10 CFR 2.206 has been denied.
The petitioner also expressed concern that GE is pursuing a " standardized" Advanced Boiling Water Reactor design which petitioner alleges fails to address many of the shortcomings identified by GE's own engineers as far back as the 1975 Reed Report.
The petitior.er was inforned that the staff has not yet c(opleted its safety evaluation for advanced boiling water reactor designs, nor has any ettlity applied for a license to build or operate an advanced boiling water reactor.
