UNIT NAME Point Beach, Unit 1 l' DATE March 9, 1990 COMPLETED BY C. W. Krause -

TELEPHONE NO. 414/221-2001 i

Unit.1 operated at approximately 494 MWe net during most of the [

report period. The Unit 1 Tref program limit was lowered a total t of 10'F to account.for core end-of-life / fuel depletion. The unit surpassed 64 billion KWh on February 2, 1990. Primary-to- .

secondary leakage was stable at a detectable rate. t i

On February 14, plant personnel conducted an Emergency Plan drill '

in preparation for the upcoming March exercise.

On February 16, load supplies for the North Service Building were ,

transferred from Wisconsin Public Service Corporation to the station service. ,

i Maintenance conducted during the period included the annual G01  !'

emergency diesel generator inspection, callup inspections for Inverters 1DYO4, 1DYO3, and DYOD, repairs to retention pond radiation monitor-RE-230, and the adjustment of the pressurizer high level trip setpoint from 90% pressurizer level to a more -

conservative 80% pressurizer level.

NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE l

DOCKET NO. 50-301 UNIT NAME Point Beach, Unit 2 DATE March 9, 1990 COMPLETED BY C. W. Krause  !

TELEPHONE NO. 414/221-2001 1

Unit 2 operated at approximately 500 MWe net throughout the j period with no significant load reductions. The unit surpassed i 64 billion KWh on February 23, 1990. Primary-to-secondary leakage was stable at less than 10 gallons per day. l On February 17, a minor power excursion occurred when the electro-hydraulic (EH). turbine governor controller shifted from 1 automatic to manual control with no operator action. While this I did not constitute a reportable event, the NRC resident inspector 1 was given courtesy notification. The source of the governor EH l control system problem has been identified and corrective action- 1 is pending.

On February 19, during an inverter instrument-bus transfer, f several pieces of station equipment lost power. Among these were l the letdown control valve, 2LCV-427, and nuclear detector power range channel 42. Operators restored the equipment immediately. 1 It is suspected that the inverters may have been 180* out of I phase when shifted.

Other maintenance conducted during the period included temporary repairs to a Unit 2 feedwater line support, and an adjustment of the pressurizer high level trip setpoint from 90% pressurizer ,

level to a more conservative 80% pressurizer level.
